How Long Does Interior House Painting Take?
Interior painting timelines depend on the number of rooms, prep, and scope. Here's what to expect.

Interior painting timelines vary more than most homeowners expect because the scope varies so much. A single room is a one- to two-day project; a full interior can take a week or more. The drivers are the number of rooms, the amount of preparation, and whether the scope includes ceilings, trim, and cabinets.
A single room — walls only, in reasonable condition — typically takes one to two days. Day one is prep and the first coat; day two is the second coat and touch-ups. If the room needs drywall repair, crack patching, or significant priming, it takes longer. Ceilings add time because they require masking the walls and a different product.
Trim and doors add their own timeline. Painting baseboards, door casings, and window trim is detailed work — caulking, sanding, priming, and finish coats. A room with extensive trim takes longer than one with walls only. Cabinet painting is a separate process entirely, usually about a week for a kitchen from removal to reassembly.
For a full interior, we phase the work room by room. This keeps the home livable and lets us work efficiently. The total timeline depends on the number of rooms, the condition of the walls, and the scope of trim and ceiling work. We provide a phased schedule with every estimate so you know what to expect.
The most common timeline surprise is prep. Homeowners sometimes expect painting to take a day, but the patching, sanding, caulking, and priming are what make the finish last — and they take time. An estimate that promises a very fast timeline without accounting for prep is one to question.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stay in my home during interior painting?
Yes. We work room by room, contain dust, and clean up daily so the home stays livable. For larger projects we can phase the work around your schedule.
How long until I can put things back on the walls?
Paint is dry to the touch within hours, but it takes longer to fully cure. We advise waiting at least a day or two before hanging pictures or placing furniture against freshly painted walls.
