The timeline for exterior house painting depends on the size of the home, the amount of preparation required, the weather, and the coatings being used. In Southern Utah, weather is generally favorable for much of the year, but extreme heat and occasional rain still shape the schedule.

For an average single-family home, a well-prepared exterior paint job typically takes three to seven working days. Smaller homes with minimal prep can be faster; larger homes or those with extensive crack repair, scraping, and priming take longer. The prep is usually the most time-consuming part — cleaning, scraping, patching, and priming can take as long as the painting itself.

Weather affects the timeline. Exterior coatings need dry surfaces and moderate temperatures to cure properly. In Southern Utah's summer, we avoid painting in the hottest part of the day on sun-exposed walls because the surface is too hot for proper adhesion. In spring and fall, conditions are often ideal. We schedule around the forecast and communicate any weather-related adjustments.

The number of coats matters. Most exterior projects include two finish coats over primed surfaces, plus the prep. Specialty coatings like elastomeric stucco coatings may have their own application requirements that affect the timeline. We provide a specific schedule with every estimate.
